Nike was founded by University of Oregon track athlete Phil Knight and his coach Bill Bowerman in Beaverton, Oregon. The company's first shoe was based on Bowerman's waffle outsole that was made with a waffle iron. The first collection launched in 1971 featuring the 'Swoosh' and the name Nike, derived from the Greek goddess of victory. Today Nike is the world's leading designer, marketer and distributor of authentic footwear, apparel, equipment and accessories for a wide variety of sports and fitness activities. Nike creates a wide variety of products for the sports lifestyle. Made for both on and off the field uses Nike has a lot to offer. From Nike shoes, Nike clothing, Nike bags, Nike watches, Nike socks, to Nike sunglasses you've got all angles covered. Nike continues to seek new and innovative ways to develop superior athletic products, and creative methods to communicate directly with Nike consumers. Nike Free, Nike+ and Nike Sphere are just three examples of this approach. Nike has always been at the front of technical integration, whether it is from Bill Bowerman's wife's waffle iron outsole, the revolutionary Nike Pegasus, to Nike Air technology; Nike is always pushing the envelope on creativity.
